The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture welcomes new public policy team member

ARLINGTON, Va. | The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture is excited to announce the hiring of Becky Garrison Warfel, RDN, LD, a licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist, as Director of Public Policy.

As Director, Garrison Warfel will advance the organization’s public policy advocacy with her experience in marketing and federal affairs with the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council and history serving as a community nutrition advisor for the University of Idaho Extension. Garrison Warfel will lead NASDA’s Food Safety and Nutrition Policy Committee.

I am beyond thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to join the NASDA team and contribute to the organization's impactful mission. My enthusiasm stems from a deep passion for food, the intricate dynamics of food systems, and the complex landscape of nutrition policy. Through past experiences, I’ve seen the inherent ability of food to bring individuals together - not just around a table, but across diverse perspectives and across aisles. The umbrella of nutrition can be such a unifying force, especially when it comes to bridging the gaps between producers, consumers, and policy makers. I could not be more eager to dive into this role and contribute to NASDA’s valuable work,” Garrison Warfel said.

Garrison Warfel holds a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition; and is working to complete her master’s in public administration from the University of Idaho and holds the credentials of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Licensed Dietitian. She has also served the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy & Promotion as a MyPlate Strategic Partner, showcasing her ability to connect how supporting farmers and ranchers contributes to healthy communities.

Garrison Warfel’s first day with NASDA will be Sept. 1, 2023.
