Share Ideas: Fertilizer Emissions Reduction Target

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has announced the launch of additional consultations to help guide the development of an approach for achieving Canada's fertilizer emissions reduction target. A discussion document is now available for comment until August 31, 2022, which is meant to stimulate discussion and build a path forward for reducing emissions from the application of fertilizers by 30% from 2020 levels by 2030.

The Government of Canada will consult with Canadians, including farmers, producers, processors, Indigenous communities, women in agriculture, youth, environmental organizations, small and emerging sectors as well as other key stakeholders and partners.

The Wheat Growers are very concerned with the lack of direction and tone of the Federal Government's initial proposal and consultation. Further information regarding fertilizer reduction and the advocacy work we've done may be found here. We will also be submitting feedback and will share that with you when it's available.

Any feedback can be directed to info@wheatgrowers.ca.
